Two real candidates for the same shortlist. Below: the entry numbers side by side, then when each one actually wins. IFZA starts AED 8,135 cheaper — but price is only the first line of the decision.
| DMCC | IFZA | |
|---|---|---|
| Licence from | AED 21,035 | AED 12,900 |
| Visa quota | per office size | up to 3 |
| Activities | 1,100+ | 2,000+ |
| Office | flexi-desk min. | not required |
| Setup time | 7–14 | 3–5 |
| Emirate | Dubai | Dubai |
IFZA opens from AED 12,900; DMCC from AED 21,035 — a gap of roughly AED 8,135 before any add-ons. Both sit in Dubai, both give you 100% foreign ownership and the same federal 9% corporate-tax regime, so the money is not buying a different country. It is buying a different address and a different reception.
With IFZA you get a very large activity list (2,000+), no office requirement at entry tiers and a licence issued in 3–5 days. With DMCC you get a Jumeirah Lakes Towers address, a mandatory flexi-desk and a 7–14 day setup — plus the intangible that banks tend to open accounts for DMCC companies with visibly less friction. One caution: IFZA pricing is broker-driven, so the same licence is quoted at different numbers. Measure the gap against the official tariff, not an agent's first figure.
IFZA fits consultants, agencies, holding structures and any founder who wants to be trading this week on a controlled budget. Its ceiling is substance: three visas at entry and no physical office are fine for a lean services firm, but thin the moment you need to place staff or prove real presence.
DMCC fits commodities traders, crypto ventures (the DMCC Crypto Centre) and companies that will hire — its visa quota scales with the office you lease rather than being capped at three. If you are a solo consultant who will never carry a large bank balance, DMCC's premium is mostly prestige you will not use. If you trade physical goods, raise money or need a dozen visas, IFZA's savings evaporate the first time a bank or counterparty asks where you actually sit.
| IFZA | DMCC | |
|---|---|---|
| Licence from | AED 12,900 | AED 21,035 |
| Activities | 2,000+ | 1,100+ |
| Visa quota | 3 at entry | Scales with office size |
| Office | None at entry tiers | Flexi-desk min. (mandatory) |
| Setup | 3–5 days | 7–14 days |
| Best for | Lean services & holdings | Trading, crypto, scaling teams |
The table hides one thing that decides a lot of cases: banking reception. DMCC's mandatory presence and tier-one reputation mean account opening is usually smoother, which matters if you will hold real balances or move trade flows. IFZA's zero-office entry keeps costs down but gives you less to show when a compliance officer asks about substance. Plan the account before you pick the zone — see our UAE bank-account guide.
Pick IFZA if budget and speed lead, you run a services, consulting or holding business, you need three visas or fewer, and you want no office overhead at the start.
Pick DMCC if you trade commodities or crypto, you will scale headcount, you want the easiest banking reception, and you can carry the flexi-desk and higher fee as the price of a tier-one address.
Read the full IFZA card and DMCC card, then model both against your real visa count and office need in the setup-cost calculator before you commit.
DMCC: The prestige address: repeatedly named global free zone of the year, home to commodities trading, crypto (DMCC Crypto Centre) and 25,000+ member companies. You pay for it — a physical presence is mandatory and visa quota scales with office size, but banks treat DMCC companies noticeably better.
DMCC full card →IFZA: The default choice for consultants, agencies and holding setups: a huge activity list, no office requirement at entry tiers and one of the fastest issuance times in Dubai. Pricing is broker-driven — the same licence is quoted at different numbers by different agents, so compare against the official tariff.
